Boutique Style in Yangon at The Loft Hotel | Around the World in 30 Days
When you think about luxury travel destinations, you may think about Paris, Tokyo, the Maldives, Bali. On nearly every bougie bucket list, these hot spots can sometimes feel a bit too safe, even a bit touristy. Sometimes you want more. Sometimes you want culture. Sometimes you want an adventure. At least, that’s how I feel. But, regardless where I’m exploring, at the end of the day I want to return to a bit of luxury. The Loft Hotel provides just that during a trip to Myanmar.
The Loft Hotel is located in Yangon (formerly Rangoon), the country’s largest city. Located right around the corner from the popular Bogyoke Aung San Market and Yangon Central Railway Station, the hotel is within walking distance of many spots including Shwedagon Pagoda.
Modern and Industrial Boutique
From the outside, the hotel is unassuming with little ornamentation. Once inside, however, you’re transported to a modern downtown gallery thousands of miles away. Materials like wood, metal, and concrete create that trendy feel while exposed ductwork and brick accent walls add an industrial touch.
The Loft Hotel has 32 beautifully decorated rooms. Each room has modern amenities like a flat screen TV and air conditioning. The closet is located by the entry and, sans doors, takes a minimalist approach, instead giving a walk-through closet vibe. The bathroom is sleek with a rainfall shower head and features L’Occitane amenities. But, the show-stealing design feature in each room is a gorgeous black-and-white photograph of the Burmese people hanging above the bed.
The staff at The Loft Hotel are extremely polite and genial. Arriving a few hours before the standard check-in time, I was prepared to wait. The staff, however, showed me to a seat and offered me tea and the wifi password while they went to see if my room was available. Within 30 minutes I was in my room. Their excellent service continued throughout my stay, getting a basket for my purse when I had breakfast at the hotel restaurant (Alex’s), holding doors for me, and offering to call a cab whenever I went out to explore the city.
The Loft Hotel is on the right track. I would suggest to pay attention to the details. One of the night-lights beneath the side tables was out, and some of the towels had fraying edges. I also had an issue with the pigeons outside my window. Many pigeons gathered on the A/C units outside the window and would be extremely noisy. The pigeons also dirtied the windows, meaning I had to keep the curtains closed the whole time. Patrons expect perfection when staying at high-end accommodations, so these details really make a difference.
