Brunch at Joseph Leonard | Around the World in 30 Days
I am a girl that brunches. Enjoying a late breakfast and the perfect beverage (cocktails and cappuccinos, anyone?) among great company is the definition of a perfect weekend to me. So, during my weekend trip to New York City, I wanted to treat my family to one such delicious meal. But, where to go? The city offers countless options for a great brunch. I decided to bring my family to Joseph Leonard. And, let me tell you, I am so happy I found this place.
A Local Gem
Joseph Leonard is a cozy find on the corner of Waverly and Grove in the West Village. The restaurant is only a couple blocks west of Washington Square Park, making it a popular spot with the locals as well as a great option for visitors.
The space probably fits around 40 or so people—very snugly—but this only adds to the restaurant’s charm. A smiling couple enjoying their meal, a couple of friends laughing over some drinks, a group chatting away in the back corner. The mood is very lighthearted. The atmosphere is very friendly. At Joseph Leonard, you feel a sense of community.
Seasonal and Fresh Food
Opened in 2009 by restaurateur Gabriel Stulman and Chef James McDuffee and their team, Joseph Leonard offers American cuisine seven days a week. The restaurant is open all day, serving breakfast, lunch, dinner, and weekend brunch. You can also pop in with some friends for a snack and one of their delicious cocktails at the bar.
The brunch menu is a wonderfully curated selection of well-thought dishes that are fresh and provide a great start to the day. Portions are perfect, not too small that you’re still hungry and not too big that you can’t walk. The salmon benedict is a refreshing spin on the classic eggs benedict, forgoing the rich hollandaise for greens and light sauce.
Visit Joseph Leonard
Joseph Leonard doesn’t take reservations, so don’t be surprised if you have to wait a few minutes for this tiny treasure. But, I assure you, this place is worth it.
